Here's What to Expect
Being convicted of a DUI by the courts is never an enjoyable process. For most offenders, long lines and piles of paperwork make the process a grueling ordeal.
At Safe Harbor, we understand that you have more important things to do with your time than standing in line and filing out paperwork. In fact, our INTERLOCK system is designed specifically for this purpose. In the following paragraphs, we provide a step by step guide of how we can assist you when you receive a DUI. While most DUI Cases are different, the following steps are meant to focus primarily on the INTERLOCK component.
Here is what you can expect should you receive a DUI:
- Conviction: After conviction of a DUI your license is suspended for the term set out by the court.
- Interlock Letter: You will receive a letter from the DMV stating that you need interlock in your vehicle.
- Special Conditions: Before you can get your license you must then fulfill other non-interlock tasks. These tasks could involve anything from classes to psychiatric evaluation; the instances will vary depending on your case.
- Call to set up an appointment: We’ll get all the information from you that we need and answer any other questions you might have.
- Installation: Once verified, you bring your vehicle to one of our several locations throughout the state. Make sure to bring your license, registration and DMV letter with you.
- Obtain your license: Once installed you have SOMEONE DRIVE YOU TO THE DMV (do not drive yourself) with your paperwork. You will get your temporary license and can enjoy driving for the next year with your interlock.
- Mandatory Monitoring Checks: Now that you are back on the roads, you must bring your vehicle back to our locations every 30 days after your installation, so we can check the device (your device will warn you in advance in case you forget).
- Key points to remember:
- Call well in advance! In order to fulfill increased demand for our services, we ask that you please give us advance notice of your arrival. It’s also required by contract.
- Remember that we file all paperwork with the DMV for you as well as correcting any clerical errors which might occur in these communications (IE = lost paperwork which would get your license suspended). If the DMV sends you a letter, call us immediately so that we can remedy any potential situation.
- Key points to remember:
- Obtain License: After a year of this process you will be ready to receive your license back. Simply check with us for the specific date.
- Device Removal: Once you obtain your full license, simply make an appointment with us to get the device removed.
And it’s as simple as that! At Safe Harbor, our commitment will never waver in providing services which make the difficult process of dealing with a DUI far easier to handle . Simply follow the above instructions and soon you will be back in the drivers seat in no time.
